I read this morning in Galatians 2:16 (KJV)
“man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ”
But in james 2:24 (KJV)
“by works a man is justified, and not by faith only”
Are we justified by faith only, by works only or both?
If these scriptures makes you contradict the Gospel then you need to learn more on how to understand the Bible.
Read the context that James is speaking when he talks about works. He precedes his comment about faith and works by talking about the royal law. The royal law is about love. Loving your neighbors. James is simply saying what Paul said but in another way? What did Paul say? Gal 5: 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
The work minded want to claim they are saying opposite things to justify their works gospels. Let’s take James in the context of the works he was talking about and not all the things the works minded use to justify all the things they use to corrupt the gospel of grace. So James was really saying that if your faith is in God who is love, there should be some evidence of it. What did Paul say was the fruit of the Spirit? Love, peace, joy…
James and Paul were not disagreeing. It’s not what James said but what people think He said. We are justified by faith alone. Jesus said this. John 5:24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and👉 believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.
Peter said this, 1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through👉 faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
Here Peter says God does it all. Every part. He begets us. He keeps us by His power. He guards our salvation and reserves it in heaven. We have faith.
Paul:8 For by grace you have been saved👉 through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
James:8 “If you really fulfill the 👉royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well”
The truth is the works minded just don’t like the gospel Paul taught because it leaves nothing for man to boast about.

Why do you tell congregants to give or pay tithe? What scripture do you quote to convince them to say it is a must to tithe.?
Does the bible authenticate tithing in church age? In the Church today, some claim that God instituted the “tithe” 400 years before God brought the children of Israel under the covenant of the Law of Moses. Therefore, since the “tithe” preceded the Law of Moses it is still relevant and therefore binding in the New Covenant. But the Sabbath was also instituted before the Law of Moses; on the seventh day of creation week. (Gen 2:2-3) If it can be claimed that the “tithe” is binding in the New Testament because it is a pre-law ordinance, shouldn’t it also hold true of the Seventh Day Sabbath?
1) What is Tithe?
2) What is used to pay Tithe?
3) Who was Commanded to pay Tithe?
4) Who was Authorized to Collect Tithe?
5) What was Tithe used for?
6) Was it a part of Judaism or of Christianity?
Tithe is a translation of the Hebrew word “ma’aser” and the Greek word “dekate” literally meaning “One Tenth”. The saga of Tithe started in the Bible in Genesis 14:17-20 when Abraham gave a tenth part of a Booty he captured in war to Melchizedek after he and his warriors were refreshed with food and drinks by this King and Priest. This was purely Personal and Reciprocal between two friends. It has nothing to do with Religion. Abraham paid this tithe once in his lifetime and I see no basis for someone to used this as his reason for paying any kind of tithe in the New Testament Church. Jacob also made a Personal and Conditional promise of Tithe to God only on the condition that God send him home safely. Genesis 28:20-22.
The Writer of the Book of Hebrews commenting on the Melchizedek issue said, Abraham paid this Tithe to purchase in Advance an Office of Priesthood for his great grandson Levi, who was not yet born at that time. This is elaborated in Hebrews 7:2-10. The last two Verses 9-10 say, “Even Levi who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, so to speak, for he was in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him”. This shows why payment of Tithe in the Bible was inseparably linked with the LEVITICAL PRIESTHOOD OF ISRAEL. The writer of the Book of Hebrews makes it clear that ONLY ISRAELITES can pay Tithes according to THE LAW and ONLY THE LEVITES can Collect Tithes according to A COMMANDMENT in Hebrews 7:5. This leaves all other Nations and People out of this Matter!
When Moses brought the Israelites out of Egypt, a Tabernacle was constructed with the Tribe of Levi given exclusive charge over its Ministry. God then made a Law giving exclusive right of Tithes to the Levites. You just listen: “Behold I have given the Children of Levi all the tithes in Israel as an inheritance in return for the work which they perform, the work of the tabernacle of meeting ….. For the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer up as a heave offering to the Lord, I have given to the Levites as an inheritance: therefore I said to them, among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance”. Numbers 18:21-24. Two things are mentioned here. The Levites received tithes for their Tabernacle Ministry and secondly, as compensation for not getting any Portion of the land that was shared by the Israelites. It is ILLEGAL for any human being who was not of the Tribe of Levi to collect tithe from People.
When Jesus ascended to heaven as the High priest for the New Testament Church, God ABOLISHED the Levitical Priesthood and SCRAPPED away all the laws governing it, including payment of tithe by the Israelites. Read it with your own eyes in Hebrews 7:11-14. Verse 12 says: “for the Priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law”. How many People have Read this?
It will shock many People to hear that the Bible knows Nothing about Tithes that are paid Monthly with physical money! The Bible Commanded the Israelites to pay their tithes in Foodstuffs and Herd Animals Annually. Let’s hear the Bible: “You shall surely tithe all the increase of your seed that the field brings forth year by year. …. And you will eat before the Lord your God in the place that He will choose to place His Name there, the tithe of your corn, of your wine and of your oil and the firstborn of your herds and of your flocks so that you may also learn always to fear the Lord your God”. Deuteronomy 14:22-23. “All the tithe of the land whether of the seed of the land or the fruit of the tree, is the Lord’s. It is holy to the Lord. …. And concerning the tithe of the herd or of the flock, and of whatever passes under the staff, the tenth will be holy to the Lord”. Leviticus 27:30-32.
Collecting money monthly and calling it “tithe” today in the Church is blasphemous! Even the much quoted Malachi 3:10 says the same thing: “bring all the tithes into the STORE ROOM, that there may be FOOD in my house”. Tithes were food kept in the Store rooms to be eaten by the Levites as Nehemiah 10:35-39 also said. The so-called present day monthly “tithe” paid with money is One Thousand Miles away from the Bible!
Christians are “sufficient as Ministers of the New Covenant”. 2 Corinthians 3:6. Starting from the Book of Acts Chapter 2 when the Church of Christ was established in Jerusalem to the end of the Bible, the Apostles wrote twenty one Epistles to instruct the Church on Christian Beliefs and Practice. Not a Single Word was ever said telling Christians to pay tithe in the Church! Isn’t it unbelievable?
So far as Church Monetary matters are concerned, the Apostles who were the Depositories of Christian Truth said, “so let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver”. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7. It is up to individual Christians to give what they can afford and more.please read check if I said something which is not right with the scriptures.
